When did you start windsurfing?

Where do you windsurf the most?
I only sail once a year now, at the midwinters.

Your best session ever:
At the nationals on Lake Michigan, late 80′s. We’d had no wind for days and suddenly at night, sleeping in tents on the beach, the wind came up. A bunch of us pulled our cars up to use the headlights to see the waves and went sailing for a couple of hours in great conditions.

Tell us a bit more about yourself:
I’m a professional theatre director, running a non-profit professional theatre in upstate NY. My windsurfing background comes from the 20 years I was running a theatre in Tampa and got into the sport there. In the late 70′s & early 80′s, local races would have the Aguera’s, Cort Larned, Ken Winner, even Robby Naish would come in occasionally – you had to get good to survive. I started racing in ’76 and by ’78 went to the Worlds in Cancun where we all got blown away (except Robby, who was like 13 and finishing a full leg ahead of everybody). It took me 8 or 9 years of second and third place finishes before I finally broke through and started winning at the Nationals and North American championships in the 80′s and 90′s. I miss the competition and being able to sail. Once a year is all I get now.
