2019 US Windsurfing Nationals to be held in Hatteras, Worthington and Maui!
For the first time in many years, the US Windsurfing National Championships will not be a single event at a single venue for all disciplines, but three separate events at three different venues picked for the best conditions for each discipline: Freestyle Nationals will be in Haterras, Course Racing Nationals in Worthington and Slalom Nationals in Maui!
Here’s the schedule:
Freestyle Nationals: April 13-20, 2019 in Avon (Hatteras), North Carolina
Course Racing Nationals: June 6-8, 2019 in Worthington, Minnesota
Slalom Nationals: July 27-29, 2019 at Kanaha (Maui), Hawaii
Freestyle Nationals: “OceanAir Sports is proud to host the return of the US Nationals Freestyle contest during OBX-WIND 2019!”, says event organizer Mike Burns. “We’re expecting freestylers from all over the world to come show us if they’ve got what it takes to take down last year’s champ Youp Schmit!” The US Nationals freestyle contest will take place during the OBX-WIND event in Cape Hatteras during the week of April 13th to 20th. Besides what is sure to be an incredible freestyle show, OBX-WIND will also feature slalom racing and the now world-famous OBX-WIND long distance race!
APRIL 13-20, 2019 – Avon, NC
We’re expecting freestylers from all over the world to come show us if they’ve got what it takes to take down last year’s champ Youp Schmit!
Course Racing Nationals (Foil, Formula, Kona, Open, Raceboard and Techno): “We’re very proud!” says Bill Keitel, Worthington local and VP Emeritus at US Windsurfing. “This is the fourth time in the past twenty years that we’re hosting the US Windsurfing national championships on the beautiful shores of Lake Okabena. Our local windsurfing associations, the city of Worthington and the Worthington Chamber of Commerce are looking forward to providing an amazing experience for sailors from all over the US and beyond.” And to add to the excitement, the event will coincide with a major yearly music festival: “If you love music and windsurfing, we’ve reserved a spot for you on Sailboard Beach!”
JUNE 6-8, 2019 – Worthington, MN
If you love music and windsurfing, we’ve reserved a spot for you on Sailboard Beach!
Slalom Nationals: “We are excited to host the US Windsurfing Slalom Nationals at the best racing venue in the world, Kanaha Beach Park!”, says race organizer Kim Ball. “The consistent tradewinds, warm water, and close proximity to the beach make Kanaha ideal for slalom racing.” Every year, the best slalom sailors in the world come to Maui to fine tune their skills and compete in the Maui Race Series, a staple on the US circuit for more than thirty years. In 2019, all the energy is going into one big event at the end of July, when the conditions are optimal!
JULY 27-29, 2019 – Kanaha State Park, Maui, HI

“This is shaping up to be a very special edition this year!” says Jerome Samson, President of US Windsurfing. “While it’s always exciting to mix up the disciplines and get everyone together in one place, it can be difficult in that situation to manage all the fleets and provide a good variety of conditions for everyone. To change things up this year, we picked venues that are tailor-made for each discipline, at a time of year when they’re at their very best, and we’re very grateful to have the support of top-notch local organizers. I’m fired up for the season, and I hope you are too!”
I’m very proud to top the 2018 rankings! I look forward to defending my title in 2019 and bringing foiling to new audiences!
