New Faces on the Board of US Windsurfing!
We’re stoked to welcome two new faces on the board of US Windsurfing: Sam Bittner and Greg Mejlaender!
Sam is the driving force behind the American Windsurfing Tour (AWT), a crazy idea that started only five years ago and has already reached spectacular heights: raising the bar in wave riding, bridging the gap between pros and amateurs, and helping us rediscover some legendary breaks around the continent. Sam and the AWT have re-energized the discipline and paved the way for a new generation of riders to showcase their talent. When the top riders are having fun, everyone else wants to join in!
“I am excited to be a part of the team at US Windsurfing and looking forward to sharing my passion for windsurfing with even more people!”, said Sam the moment she joined the team. Based in Maui, she’s joining the board of US Windsurfing as Regional Director responsible for the Pacific Region, replacing Tammy Bockius who will take on special projects for US Windsurfing. “Sam brings a lot of expertise to a sport where there are few people with her particular skill set,” said Tammy. “I think she’ll do an awesome job!”
Greg is the man in and around Seattle – taking part in all the events, organizing clinics and introducing newcomers to the sport. Even a winter gale won’t stop him from hitting the water, as you can clearly see in the shot to the left! This past summer, Greg was instrumental in supporting the West Coast tour organized by Kona USA and US Windsurfing.
He’s succeeding Andreas Macke as our Regional Director for the Northwest region. “I’m very stoked to be a contributing part of US Windsurfing,” said Greg. “I’ve volunteered hard to help support windsurfing in my part of the country. And now to get more ideas from the National organization – and an easier conduit to share ideas back and forth – is awesome!”
“We’re very grateful that Sam and Greg have agreed to join the team!” said Jerome Samson, president of US Windsurfing. “We’re all looking forward to the passion, experience and all-around positive energy that they’ll be bringing to all our programs!”
