2020 US Nationals in Hatteras, Annapolis and Maui!

Happy New Year and welcome to a new season of fast and fun windsurfing events around the US!
Like in previous years, the US Windsurfing National Racing Tour (NRT) will offer competitors the opportunity to race for season-ranking points in 2020 across a variety of classes. Check out all the details on the NRT page! With 19 events from coast to coast this year, there’s a good chance that there will be one near where you live and play.
The NRT will test your mettle and stamina all year long, but if you can’t make it to all the events, there are three standout events that you won’t want to miss!
April 11-18: HATTERAS, NC
2020 FREESTYLE NATIONALS
“We’re really excited to announce that the 2020 US Nationals for Freestyle will be held once again during OBX-WIND week!” says Mike Burns, OBX-WIND head organizer. “The 2019 US Nationals drew some of the highest level freestylers from around the world and the level just gets higher and higher each year. Spectators gathered to watch the amazing display put on by the pros with many scratching their heads in disbelief of what was possible on a windsurf board. OBX-WIND 2020 will once again be held at Ocean Air Sports in Avon, NC which has now become a world famous windsurfing destination on Cape Hatteras!”

May 23-25: ANNAPOLIS, MD
2020 COURSE RACING NATIONALS
” Severn Sailing Association is pleased to have been selected to host the 2020 US Windsurfing Course Race Nationals in conjunction with the Annapolis Windsurfing Festival this year!” says Jesse Falsone, Regatta Chairman. “SSA has a long tradition of running small boat one-design events, including at the national and world championship levels. We’re looking forward to the fun and excitement that windsurfing brings to sailing! We want the event to be relaxed and inclusive, and we hope that windsurfers of all levels participate, so we’re planning to run two racing circles – one for the US Nationals classes (Sat-Sun-Mon) and another for beginner-friendly sport fleets (Sat-Sun). The AWF is as much about fun as it is about competition!”

July 25-27: MAUI, HI
2020 MAUI SLALOM NATIONALS
“The Maui Slalom group is honored to once again host the US Windsurfing Slalom Nationals for 2020!” says Kim Ball, event chair. “With unparalleled slalom conditions offering exciting and challenging conditions and a race crew with 35 years of experience, you can be guaranteed a thrilling and well run event at Kanaha Beach Park. With an abundance of recreational activities for time spent off the water, and fun lodging and dining options when you need to recharge, Maui is everything you’ve dreamed about, and then some!”

Registration is open for the 2020 Freestyle Nationals in Hatteras already, and will open soon for Annapolis and Maui. We can’t wait to see you at these marquee events! And make sure to check out all the other regional events on the US Windsurfing master calendar. There are dozens on the map already and the calendar will be updated regularly throughout the season.
Jesse did a great job on the first annual event in Annapolis in ‘19. Awesome to see it is growing in 2020. What’s a 21 year gap in attending Nationals…can’t wait!
